Here at Carara Nature Retreat, You will be able to nurture both your mind and body while getting away from the world in a beautiful setting. This is great if you want to just escape and relax or for anyone interested in a more active getaway. You can go hiking on our private trail right into the Rainforest of the Carara National Park and discover small private waterfalls with natural swimming pools all to yourself, or take a waterfall tour, go fishing on a chartered boat, go on an excursion, surfing, zip-lining, or just relax and enjoy watching the parrots, hummingbirds, wildlife, and butterflies from your hammock on our large balcony.
The Carara National Park forms the backdrop for this small, countryside community. The Bijagual Waterfall, just 5 minutes away, is one of the many local waterfalls and the tallest in Costa Rica.
Because of Carara Nature Retreat's location on the edge of the Carara National Park (the only transition forest in the Central Pacific where species of dry and humid forests converge) you will see a variety of diverse local animals, flora, and fauna. Carara is a worldwide known birdwatching destination where guests can see many birds including Hummingbirds, White-Fronted Parrots, Macaws, Toucans, Parrots, Finches, other local birds up close and personal. And we are just 25 minutes from Jaco's touristy town & beaches. The drive to Carara Nature Retreat is beautiful with cows grazing and tropical birds flying around, you absolutely have to stop at some point and take in the breathtaking landscapes.
** You Will Need Awd/4wd to reach us, the roads to get there are winding and some of the way is not paved. Experience at driving mountain roads or hiring a driver is recommended.
** This property is strictly a pet-free zone due to severe Allergies.**
Adventures Await near Rainforest Trails & Waterfalls. Perched on a peaceful mountaintop with our own trails into the Rainforest, Carara Nature Retreat is off the beaten path. Hummingbirds and butterflies, White-Fronted Parrots, Macaws, Toucans, Parrots, Finches, White-faced Capuchins, other birds and animals can be seen everywhere on the property... And we are just a 25 minute drive from Jaco's tourist town & beaches.
We are conveniently located. 1½ hrs south of San Jose Airport & 2 hours south is Bahia Ballena, 1 ½ hrs to Quepos/Manel Antoñio, and 25 min to Los Suenos Marina for fishing or a 45 min catamaran ride away from Isla Tortuga.

House Rules:
- No shoes in the house please. The red mud stains everything!
- If any evidence of pets or smoking on the property is determined after check-out; you will be charged a fee of $300 for each offense.
- Make sure that your vehicle remains completely locked, the administration is not be responsible for theft or loss.
- All trash must be deposited into trash cans.
Pool Area Rules:
- No glass containers or food in the pool.
- No horseplay or diving in the pool.
- Please take a shower and make sure there is no red clay on feet before use. Do not enter the pool covered with sand, clay, or mud.
