The location is nestled within the charming Woodhaven neighborhood, just moments from downtown Bethesda, you'll find a unique blend of history and modern living. Originally envisioned by architect Philip Dein in 1936, this picturesque community takes its name from his beloved Long Island roots. Dein, a New York transplant, not only designed but also resided in the neighborhood, calling three different houses in Woodhaven his home until his passing in 1962.
The neighborhood's early dwellings, about 56 in total, reflect Dein's vision, boasting stone and stucco cottages, Tudor, and Colonial Revival styles. These homes were designed to cater to the burgeoning middle class, offering sought-after conveniences of the time, including basement servant's quarters, quaint breakfast nooks, two elegant stone fireplaces, sleeping porches for those balmy summer nights, and innovative whole-house fans. Attached garages symbolized the increasing significance of automobile ownership.
